Tektronix WFM7120 Waveform Monitor, TG700 Video Signal Generator Help Marshall Deliver Industry’s First Lineup of 3Gb/s LCD Monitors

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 13, 2009 – Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that Marshall Electronics, a leading manufacturer of LCD camera-top and rack mountable monitors, has turned to a Tektronix WFM7120 Waveform Monitor and a TG700 Video Signal Generator with an HD3G7 module for design validation and characterization in the development of the industry’s first 3Gb/s serial digital interface (SDI) LCD monitors.

With the demand for high definition broadcast exploding, Marshall's customers in film and broadcast production need full-featured, high-end monitors with full 3Gb/s and HD-SDI support. The latest family of Marshall 6.5” and 7” LCD monitors offers 3Gb/s SDI, HD-SDI (1.5Gb/s single and dual link), SD-SDI, HDMI, and Component inputs. More Marshall monitors offering 3Gb/s SDI will become available later this year in a variety of sizes and configurations.

When Marshall launched the design effort for its new monitors, it needed high-end instrumentation and accurate signal generation.  After scanning the market, Marshall found that Tektronix was the only vendor able to deliver proven, accurate 3Gb/s test instruments and video signal generators.  The TG700 is a multi-format precision signal generation platform. Designed with the changing needs of the video industry in mind, the TG700 offers sync pulse generation and test signal generation for a wide array of analog, serial digital, and digital high definition formats including SD-SDI, HD-SDI single and dual link and 3Gb/s high speed SDI supporting 1080p formats up to 60 fps. Tektronix leadership position with a 3Gb/s signal generator solution assisted Marshall in achieving product innovation and creating a competitive advantage.

“Not all signal generators are created equal. The TG700 gave us the confidence that our new 3Gb/s monitors were going to work properly,” said Amir Behrozi, project manager at Marshall Electronics. “The WFM7120 is the Ferrari F430 of test instruments and the Tektronix technical support team has been great at helping us meet the exacting standards expected for professional video production gear.”
