Wireless mobile visual communications system on large train system wins industry's top honors
Las Vegas, NV, February 26, 2009 - During a presentation ceremony held last night at the Digital Signage Expo, Omnivex Corporation, the premier provider of digital signage software, accepted the Environmental Design Integration Award on behalf of United Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (UMBC). The winning system integrates Omnivex software on GO Transit's commuter trains in the Greater Toronto Area to power a unique network of wireless mobile broadcasting to inform and entertain passengers. UMBC selected Omnivex software to manage the system for its flexibility when working with new communications technologies, cost-saving ability while maintaining a network, and the ease of collecting proof of play data.
The APEX Awards represent the very best digital signage, interactive technology and out-of-home network installations. Award nominees are judged by a panel of experts for uniqueness, overall design and implementation.
"We received an extraordinary number of entries for the Apex Awards for 2009, which is not only a reflection on the continued growth of the digital signage, interactive technologies and Out-of-Home Network industry, but it is also clear that the work being done is raising the bar significantly in terms of quality and excellence. We are pleased to present the 2009 winners who have distinguished themselves in this way," said Chris Gibbs, President of ExpoNation, the organization that manages the Digital Signage Expo and hosts the Awards. There were a total of 6 awards presented, with only one winner per category.
GO Transit operates over 400 bi-level passenger railcars in the GTA, serving over 170,000 passengers daily. UMBC was contracted by GO to implement and manage the digital signage system on the trains. Each car is fitted with eight 15 inch LCD monitors (four per level) to display an informative and entertaining digital signage network, which also includes audio available by FM radio.
"We are honored to have been recognized with this prestigious industry award," said a UMBC representative. "We strive to provide our customers with the very best solutions for their unique challenges when deploying mobile broadcasting. Omnivex software played a large role in helping us achieve our vision for the deployment."
